Pix from my first full day in Vienna at the Leopold Museum. I've tried to get some close-ups to show the brushwork and some photos with people in them so you can get an idea how big some of the paintings are. If you're interested in seeing non-reduced-file-size versions (which should show the brushwork, etc., better when you click on the image to see the full-size), they're here. (If they don't seem to appear, click on the "Date uploaded" link below my Flickr name.)
The Klee at the bottom was the first of the WOW! The Heidi Horten Collection exhibition. By the time I made my way up there, I'd already been at the museum for several hours, had a concert to go to that evening, so decided I'd save the rest for another visit. The first few photos (before the Alex Katz) are from the Vienna 1900 show.
To give you a sense of the size
This was in the main entry hall
behind the scenes in the museum
Again for scale
This dried rose seemed to be a thing in 1912
Another detail
These ravens also appeared in a Breugel winter scene
that Jan's friend, Carlo, introduced me to the day before at the Kunst Historisches Museum.
Another driec rose in a 1912 work
A very early work
I love his cityscapes
If you can't read this, ask me & I'll transcribe it.
When I heard this on Graham Norton a few weeks ago, I knew it would be one of my favorite moments at this year's Oscars. The theme song from The Greatest Showman.
I hope you like it, too. Here are the lyrics:
I'm not a stranger to the dark
Hide away, they say
'Cause we don't want your broken parts
I've learned to be ashamed of all my scars
Run away, they say
No one will love you as you are
But I won't let them break me down to dust
I know that there's a place for us
For we are glorious
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am proof
I am who I'm meant to be, this is me
Look out 'cause here I come
And I'm marching on to the beat I drum
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
Oh oh oh oh (Oh oh oh oh)
Another round of bullets hits my skin
Well, fire away 'cause today, I won't let the shame sink in
We are bursting through the barricades
And reach above the sun (we are warriors)
Yeah, that's what we'll become
Won't let them break me down to dust
I know that there's a place for us
For we are glorious
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
Gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am proof
I am who I'm meant to be, this is me
Look out 'cause here I come
And I'm marching on to the beat I drum
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
Oh oh oh oh (Oh oh oh oh)
This is me (Oh oh oh oh)
And I know that I deserve your love (Oh oh oh oh)
'Cause there's nothing I'm not worthy of
(Oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh, oh)
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
This is brave, this is proofed
This is who I'm meant to be, this is me
Look out 'cause here I come (look out 'cause here I come)
And I'm marching on to the beat I drum (marching on, marching on)
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
Whenever the fire's gone, whenever the fire's gone
And I'm marching on
Oh oh oh, this is me
Of course I awoke @ 4ish this AM - got up @ 5:30AM, since the body thought it was 11:30AM. Got some early pix of the snow and the trees that came down in the last Nor'easter.
Got back last night from my week in Vienna where I went to see the "jubilee" exhibitions commemorating the centennial anniversary exhibitions of some of my favorite Viennese artists, Klimt, Schiele, et al. The only way the week could have been better was if I'd stayed longer. Also saw/heard the Vienna Symphony (_not_ the Phil as I'd thought - they were in the US last week - go figure) but it was in the Musikverein. I have _never_ heard Brahms 2 played to beautifully. 2nd mvt. moved me to tears it was so lovely.- and I'm not a Brahms fan. Also heard a chamber version of Debussy's Pelleas et Melisande. Btwn the sung French and the German super-titles, I was _almost_ able to figure out what was going on. And not only did the Lufthansa plane leave on time yesterday but they _booked_ it across the pond, shaving 50 minutes off the arrival time. So I only had to walk home from the T in the rain.
And this one from more around sunrise
showing how close it came to the porch
On my way up the hill from my toddle this AM I heard a strange bird call. When I looked across the street there was a flock of turkeys noshing in one of our neighbor's yard. By the time I ran into the house got the camera, they'd moved on down the hill, with the tom looking @ our next door's neighbor's wall wondering if he could jump up there & the hens across the street wandering into another neighbor's back yard. When the tom decided they weren't going to follow him, he meandered across the street to join them.
Here's a photo I took yesterday of the lovely cyclamen I got years ago as a Christmas present from my Harvard U. department. Remember you can click on the picture to see a bigger version.
Potter's been ailing for a year or so with failing kidneys and for awhile the prednisone was keeping her going, with a good appetite, purrs, etc.. Yesterday, however, she hardly ate anything and is clearly not feeling well. So depending on how she does today, sometime tomorrow or Sunday morning we're going to take her on the one-way trip to the vet.
I called them just now to see how that would work. The rep. told me they have her down as 17 years, 9 months, and 3 days old. Seems like just yesterday she showed up in our garden as a kitten.
Since I live too far away being able to see the total lunar eclipse the day after my b'day (was happy that not only did we get snow on the actual, factual day, but there was also a full, super, blue moon that day - or at least the actual, factual full moon was within hours of 23:45 when I apparently entered this world 64 years ago), imagine my delight to see February's entry in our Klee calendar. His water color Red Bridge, that looks like it has a blood moon in it. :) Remember you can click on the picture to see a larger version.
Off now for a wee toddle & then, who knows?, maybe some tootling & laundry.
