Pix today from my further explorations @ the Met. Works mostly by American artists.
Also today, I pass along a link to the most recent of Krista Tippet's Civil Conversations Project - this one on gay marriage with Jonathan Rauch "a lifelong journalist and also a gay man who believes that marriage equality for gays and lesbians can strengthen the value of institutional marriage for everyone" & David Blankenhorn "known in the words of the prominent gay writer Andrew Sullivan, as 'the most intellectually honest, non-homophobic opponent of marriage equality.'" My favorite line was Mr. Rauch's "I think it's time for us to get a little bit more uncompromising in our defense of compromise." Especially in our hyper-partisan climate when even (especially?) the presidential candidates are going at each other hammer & tong, this series is important. My one quibble is Mr. Rauch's capitulation (compromise?) on the idea that gay people's marrying "is a huge shift in the way [straights are] thinking about marriage for 3,000 years," when, in fact, the idea of what marriage means is constantly changing - remember back in the day when a wife's inheritance became solely that of the husband's when they married - to mention only 1 example.
