2016-02-27: do you know the way to San Jose, er, Nazareth?

Pictures today from Jan & my Saturday-morning trip to Nazareth, a city that is now mostly Arab, and a visit to the western Christian Church (er, Basilica - who knew?) of the Annunciation, another place where the original place is ancient but the church built literally on top of it fairly modern.

One of Jan's scenic routes, this one a back road view of the city.

Where we kinda got lost.

I think this is another view of Mt. Tabor on top of which is the
aforementioned Church of the Transfiguration (apparently not
that far from Nazareth

The modern part of the Basilica was built in 1969.

Looking up to the roof.

Tile-work in front of the Grotto of the Annunciation,
which grotto dates to the Byzantine era.

Said grotto.

We got in just in time (in fact we had to knock on the door that
had just been shut) as they were setting up for a service where
these musicians played/sang.

Stained glass on the way to the upper part of the
Basilica

Several countries donated lovely mosaics
that grace the walls of the upper part of the Basilica.
The next few photos of the one from Japan.
